Inspection services are available for all types of lifting equipment & machinery, such as lifts, hoists, cranes.

We are able to offer this service on site with all equipment inspected quickly and efficiently to cause minimum disruption to your internal procedures. Further to this, a Report of Thorough Examination will be raised promptly identifying all equipment that is fit for use and highlighting any equipment that may be defective.

Any defective equipment can be withdrawn from site immediately and brought back to our workshop for a repair quotation.

LOLER The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations in conjunction with PUWER The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations are the legislation that govern the use, maintenance and safety of equipment used in the workplace.

The legislation is ‘risk based’ and places a Duty of Care on the Owners of the equipment to make sure it is safe to use and complies with the relevant Directives. To that end the Owner must make provisions for the detailed planning, supervision and implementation of all Lifting Operations.

The LOLER Inspection as it is sometimes called, forms part of this Duty of Care and requires the Owner to provide a Record of Thorough Examination of the equipment before the first use, following installation and then periodically, either 6 / 12 Monthly or alternatively in certain circumstances in accordance with a  Written Scheme during its life. 

All Owners of a business that uses Lifting Equipment must comply with the LOLER Regulations. A LOLER Certificate or Report of Thorough Examination to give it it’s correct name, is a requirement under the Health and Safety at Work Act  and it forms part of an Owners Duty of Care to ensure overall compliance to The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1988 and The Provision and Use of Work Equipment 1988.

LOLER is supplemented by approved Codes of Practice which have a legal status, if you are prosecuted for a breach of health and safety law you will need to prove you have followed the provisions in the Code.

As the name suggests, LOLER – The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1988 – covers most types of Lifting Equipment and Lifting Accessories used in a Lifting Operation. Therefore, if while at work you are using equipment to hoist or lower a load, including the accessories for attaching and supporting, you will need to adhere to the requirements laid down in LOLER. If you are unsure it is always best to take some expert advise as certain items that you may assume to be covered, come under their own separate legislation, for example Escalators are not covered by LOLER.

LOLER Inspection periods vary depending on the type of equipment you are using, it is important to make yourself aware of the legislation for your own equipment.

When equipment is for lifting people the maximum inspection period is every six months.  
For Lifting Accessories the Inspection Period must be at least every six months.
Most other Lifting equipment must be Inspected at least every twelve months.

If the equipment is being used in particularly hazardous or extreme conditions the Inspection Periods can be shortened and a Written Scheme of Examination drawn up to reflect the use of the equipment.
